New Holochain Project “Requests & Offers - HC/MVP”
A hAppenings.community project to facilitate exchanges between Holochain Creators & Advocates!
We’ll make a giant leap and imagine that if you’re reading this newsletter you are minimally curious about Holochain, and most likely an Advocate/Enthusiast or a Creator (Designer/Developer). That being said, we’d like to share an idea and get your input and wisdom about our proposed project “Requests & Offers - HC/MVP”.
The Concept
First, let’s look at our personal distinction between an ‘Enthusiast’ and an ‘Advocate’. Enthusiasts are excited about the concepts of Holochain, which is fantastic! For us, Advocates also want to be in active support of the Holochain Ecosystem, and sometimes for specific Holochain Projects.
The idea is to create a simple Holochain application (hApp) that facilitates the Creators/Projects/Developers' ability to reach out to the Holochain Advocates with specific requests to support their various Holochain Projects. It would be built on Holochain, and of course, be open source. We desire to have it roughly built on TimeBanking/LETS design ideas, along with the possibility of including a Mutual Credit Currency component.
So, the Creators request what they want, and the Advocates share what they’d enjoy offering to the Ecosystem. It’s a simple, basic application (a Minimal Viable Product or MVP), that allows us to practice exchanging with each other!
Part of the inspiration to build this hApp is to engage those who are Holochain Advocates to see they have a great opportunity to PARTICIPATE in the Ecosystem by supporting the Projects. Advocates (who may be HoloHosts) have a wealth of talents to tap and want to feel useful, valued, and included in the Holochain community.
A bit of background
The developer community within the Holochain Ecosystem has had multiple training and hackathon opportunities and more focused support. However, the Advocates who want to offer their time and get involved have struggled to discover useful ways to contribute. Partly this was due to the developmental stage of the Holochain framework, necessarily the technical development needs to be progressed before the community can use it.
Now that we know Holo Beta is imminent, as is HoloFuel mutual credit, we sense the wider Advocate community can increasingly get involved with nurturing and expanding the ecosystem.
As the hApps in development approach their own Betas and public releases they’ll need more widespread testing and feedback. Previously, during Alpha testing, this has often been conducted in a more managed, organic, private manner with professional testers and small, invited, groups. Beta releases change this; requiring greater stress testing and more ‘real-world’ use of apps and modules, while offering us all a greater understanding of the capacities that this new technology framework facilitates.
At hAppenings.community, we have created an AirTable database of the projects building on Holochain and have asked how they’d like to be supported. It’s an early start to the Requests & Offers hApp.
What problems does “Requests & Offers - HC/MVP” solve?
Holochain Projects and Developer/Support Groups have project needs that their small team may not be able to handle completely. And, being siloed within their bubble of development, may not reach out to the greater community for support. Some of the ways they may want help could include:
Editing
Donations
Investors
Testing
Volunteers
Developers
Key team members
Moderators
Holochain Advocates want ways to be actively supportive and to feel included in this grand journey. They have a variety of time, talents, and interests to bring to the Holochain Ecosystem. They might have skills beyond the above requests like:
Fundraising experience
Office Skills
Application Design
Facilitation skills
Online Marketing
Community Building
Online Moderation
In addition, the relationships and trust that can be built with these new connections can be immeasurably valuable to both the Creators Projects and to all the individuals involved. It’s another great way to deepen relationships and build community!
So…what do you think?
Since we (Anita & Sam) are Advocates and NOT Developers, we have created a survey to determine if this type of application is truly of interest to the broader Holochain Community. We’ve had some great initial feedback, and, we’d like to hear YOUR thoughts and wisdom on the subject!
Our Gitbook Litepaper is under development, and we’ll be creating a Github when we are clearer on our design. Keep watching this space!
With deep appreciation,
Anita & Sam
